Help Your Pet Dog Get Over Peeing Indoors With These 5 Tips

Pets have been one of human’s priceless possessions and valued companions for centuries. They make humans go “Aww” with their cute looks, silly actions, and amusing antics. Having said that, one thing that pet owners dislike is pets peeing on their favorite cushions, bed, sofa, etc.

Pet pups or dogs peeing indoors may be due to a lack of training, fear of something or somebody, inability to go outside to pee, drinking excessive water, or unknown health factors like issues with bladder control. However, if your doggo constantly pees in prohibited places, your pet may need medical attention.

Dog insurance NZ can provide you some financial relief when your pet doggo needs quality healthcare. Look for insurance for pets online and purchase a policy to make the whole affair affordable for you while giving your pet another chance at having excellent health.

Meanwhile, we have some tips that may work well with your dogs in curbing their habit of peeing indoors.

1.Potty training

Younger pups may need potty training sessions so they learn what to do and where. Establishing a routine for little pups is necessary, so they grow into responsible dogs. However, older dogs may also need house training at some point, so they revisit the potty lessons learned earlier.

Pet parents must be vigilant and help their furry companions understand and adjust to bathroom breaks when essential.

2.Identify the emotion

Is there something that scared your pet? Or is your pet dog too excited? In both cases, your furry pet can relieve itself as a physical response to a stimulus that causes alarm or enthusiasm. It is known by the term submissive urination in medical language. This condition is primarily seen in younger pups, but adult dogs are no exception either.

Talk to your vet to know about medications that alleviate this condition or a pet behaviorist about whether training will help. There are medicines available over the counter but we suggest you take the vet’s advice and follow their prescriptions.

3.Positive reinforcement

Admonishing your four-legged friend probably won’t take you anywhere. Taking them to task may only raise their anxiety levels and leave them even more confused at the receiving end. If you don’t wish to take onboard more indoor peeing, you will need to learn to be friendly and kind to your fur baby at home.

Reward your doggy every time they obey your instruction. You can give your pup small food treats, heap praises and appreciation, gift toys, and give plenty of head rubs. The honors you do stays in their minds, and they are most likely to repeat the good behavior.

4.Spay/Neuter pet

Many dogs spray to mark their territories. It can be one reason why they pee in certain places. However, it can’t be concluded as the only reason for such behavior. People have observed that spaying or neutering fur babies can significantly reduce this habit of marking territories through peeing in areas they consider to belong to them. Talk to your vet to know more on this.

5.Meet the vet

To understand the root cause of the persistent peeing problem, head to your vet, who should be able to assist you with this. If the issue has potentially sprouted because of any underlying medical conditions, he or she may suggest the following steps so your pet dog overcomes such a habit; if it is considered a behavioral issue, they may advise on some training and therapy for your pet.

Dog insurance in NZ is available at different levels of health cover, to help deal with all kinds of medical issues. Inquire about insurance for pets online and buy a policy that suits your furry baby’s health requirements and your budget. It is prudent to have insurance cover that can help you cut down your annual pet health expenses while providing the best health care for your pet.
