What You Need to Know About Ionizing Air Conditioners

Maintaining the proper temperatures in your home throughout the year may not be easy, but it is something we all try to achieve. Your home can become unbearably warm during summer, and opening windows and doors may not provide enough relief. Air conditioning is becoming popular in homes and other indoor spaces, including the office, and today, you can find an air conditioners with an in-built ionizing unit. But first, what is an air conditioner, and what is an ionizing device?

An air conditioner, otherwise known as an AC, is a device that removes heat and moisture from indoor spaces, cooling down the temperature. But there is more to this process besides taking in warm air and dispersing cold air. The evaporation of a liquid called the refrigerant cools water or air, controlling the humidity, temperature, and air quality in your indoor space.

An ionizing unit utilizes electrically charged air molecules called ions to purify the air by trapping contaminants and impurities. Usually, ionizers are stand-alone devices, but they are now being built into devices, including air conditioners, refrigerators, and computers, with technological advancements.

Most air conditioners generate anions (negatively charged particles); they are known to be abundant in forests and beaches, but they can also be found at their highest after a thunderstorm. Today, we have models that emit negative and positive ions; below is more information about them.

Plasma air conditioner

More than just indoor cooling temperatures, innovations such as White Umbrella cold plasma technology allow the inactivation of bacteria, viruses, fungi, spores, and odor molecules safely and efficiently. Air conditioners that emit plasma ions have both polarities – negative and positive, making them more efficient than the typical negative ion generators.

Further, plasma air conditioners do not create detectable ozone as a byproduct and reduce various air pollutants. For instance, when you switch on an air conditioner ionizer, ions with negative and positive polarities surround viruses and damage their cells; as a result, the airborne contaminants become inactive. Therefore, air conditioners that emit positive ions are more efficient than generating anions only.

How long should you leave the fan running for the air purifier to work?

You can leave the ionizing air conditioner running 24/7, but only when no one is in the room. If the AC generates ozone as a byproduct, it is good to keep the windows open if you have to be in the room. Don’t leave the fan running in an enclosed space when there are people present. Leaving the fan running purifies that air, but this comes at a cost – the energy bill may increase, and since the filters are in use all the time, they degrade faster.

What’s the difference between standard air purifiers and an ionizing air conditioner?

Air purifiers have a fan that draws in air and a dense filter that traps the particles inside, releasing clean air back into the room. On the other hand, an ionizing air conditioner removes electrically charged air molecules that bond with harmful impurities such as pollen, mold, pet dander, smoke, chemical toxins, possible viruses, and dust.

These particles are usually heavy to stay in the air, so they clump together and gather on walls or fall onto the floor. Since ionizing air conditioners purify the air, they can be helpful for people with allergies, a weak immune system, respiratory ailments, asthma, and chemical sensitivities.

Standard air purifiers cover a smaller area since they use physical filters; some devices can cover around 1.560 square feet. However, ionizing air conditioners are extremely powerful and can purify large spaces up to 3.500 square feet. One air ionizer is enough for a big room that otherwise would need several regular air purifiers.

An ionizing air conditioner is powerful, meaning it will draw more electricity; besides, they are low maintenance devices. In most cases, air purifiers have filters that need replacement every six to 12 months.

Ionizing air conditioners is one of the top trends in technologies; they eliminate the need to purchase stand-alone ionizers and emit negative ions, meaning healthier air. Besides being a trend in technology, air conditioners with ionizers significantly improve the air quality in your home; they trap particles that otherwise would be too small to filter out. An ionizing air conditioner is what you need for optimum hygiene and comfort in your office or any other indoor space.
