Getting prescriptions filled can be one of the most annoying parts of going to the doctor. If you have regular prescriptions that you need to take on a daily basis, or if you get sick, you will need to remember to keep your prescriptions on hand. With a busy everyday life, it can be hard to remember to get your prescriptions filled. Here are some tips for making prescriptions hassle free.
Make a regular fill date
Instead of trying to remember to fill your prescriptions a few days before they run out, come up with a plan to always have the prescription you need on hand. For hassle free prescription filling, get your pills refilled on a specific day. Set a date every month, such as the 15th and use this day to refill your prescriptions. By making it a monthly habit to go on a specific day, you will keep your medications on hand and remember with ease. Be sure to count your medications then find a date that will work for the upcoming month.
Go grocery shopping on this day
Instead of spending your time waiting around for your prescription to be filled, use this time to do your weekly grocery shopping. Drop your prescriptions off directly before you go shopping, then pick them up after you have hit the checkout line. This allows you to use the time between dropping off your medications and getting them filled wisely. If there is no grocery store nearby, make this your restaurant day and take yourself, family, or friends out for a nice lunch in order to pass the wait time.
Get all of the medication at once
If you have more than one medication that needs to be filled, you should still fill all of your medication at one time. Even if you have one full bottle of a medication and no more bottles of another, fill each of these at once. For instance, if you need to buy modafinil and a painkiller each month, purchase both of these in one trip. Not only will you save a trip, but you will eventually start a stockpile that will give you some leeway in the event that you can’t make it to the pharmacy on time one month.
Look for a mail service
If you are interested in cutting the drop-off and pick up part of your prescription process, look for a mailing service. Ask your doctor if the hospital has, or recommends a service that can fill and mail your prescriptions to your address. This service may cost more due to the postage, but it will entirely eliminate any of the annoyance of picking up medication. Make sure you get a doctor recommended service, as finding one on-line can yield iffy results depending on the service that you choose. You want to make sure that you are still getting quality medications while saving time on traveling to the local pharmacy.
