NDA 2015: A brief Description

National Defense Academy Examination is a biannual examination, conducted every year by Union Public Service Commission, which is the India’s Central Agency responsible for conducting various reputed competitive examinations such as Civil Service, CDS Examination etc.

By the means of National Defense Academy Examination, selection of candidates is done for Army, Navy as well as Air force. The cadets of all three services train together before they go for their pre-commissioning training to be conducted in their respective service academies.


NDA Examination is for students, who have completed their class 12 or equivalent examination. Based on the selection made by the selected candidates, they receive B.A/B.Tech degree in related fields. Every year students compete in NDA Examination for 375 seats out of those 208 seats are for Army, 42 for Navy, 70 for Air Force and 55 for Naval Academy.

The details related to the National Defense Academy Examination such as its eligibility, application process etc. are given below:

Eligibility: The candidate should fulfill the following eligibility conditions in order to make application for National Defense Academy Examination:

  • Nationality: The applicant needs to be an Indian citizen or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan or a Tibetan Refugee settled in India prior to January 1, 1962.
  • Age: The candidate should be born between January 2, 1997 and January 1, 2000 in order to be eligible to make application for NDA.
  • Gender: Only male candidates are eligible for making application for NDA.
  • Marital status: The applicants need to be unmarried and should remain unmarried till the training tenure is completes.
  • For Army: The candidate should have class 12 or equivalent examination from state or central board.
  • For Air Force and Navel Academy: The applicant should have cleared class 12 examination with Physics and Mathematics as main subjects.
  • Height: The height of the candidates should be 157.5cms while the same is 162.5cms for Air Force.
  • Chest: The candidates should have fully developed and not less than 81cms when expanded. The minimum expansion needs to be 5cms.
  • Eye Sight: For Naval Academy, candidates eyesight needs to be Uncorrected without Glasses: 6/6 and 6/9 while candidates with spectacles are not considered eligible for Air Force.
  • The payment of application fee can be done by means of Credit/Debit card or by cash at any branch of State Bank.

Application Process: The applications for National Defense Academy are accepted online and there is no offline application process. There is an application fee of Rs. 100 for general candidates while application is free of cost for candidates from reserved categories or for Son of JCO/NCO/Other Rank Officers & Studying in Sainik/Military School.
