Debunking 5 Myths about MBA Entrance Exams

The most difficult thing for MBA aspirants is to crack MBA entrance exams. Mostly, these exams are college specific or national level tests that are accepted by top B-schools of India. But what do these exams want from MBA aspirants? Do these tests are a criteria to separate capable from non-capable? Can only brilliant students crack these exams? Read on to find out myths about MBA entrance exams that are blocking out the chances of clearing such exams by even hard working candidates:


Myth #1: Only IITians and NITians can make it to top MBA schoolsIf you believe that IITians and NITians have good academic profile and so they can crack these exams, then this is a baseless thing to think about! Your knowledge, confidence and performance in the exam decide your fate. Just forget that you are a non-IITian! Focus on your exam and your success will be decided by your level of preparation.

Myth #2: CAT is the only way to enter IIMsThere are many other MBA entrance exams other than Common Admission Test (CAT).Management Aptitude Test (‪MAT‬) has become the second most preferred exam after CAT‬ for admission to B-schools in ‪India‬. MAT exam is conducted four times in a year so you get more opportunities per year as compared to CAT exam. Other popular exams include XAT for Xavier Labour Research Institute (XLRI) Jamshedpur and other Xavier’s Institutes, SNAP for Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Common Entrance Test (CET) for Management institutes in Maharashtra, etc.

Myth #3: CAT is the toughest exam to crackQuestions in MAT paper are relatively easier than CAT exam. However that doesn’t make MAT exam easier to clear for anyone. Every MBA entrance exam tests students based on their level of knowledge, speed and accuracy. Missing out any one factor would decrease your chances of clearing exams.


Myth #4: Full-time working professionals have advantage in MBA entrance examsReally? They do have advantage in personal interview (PI) round but not during the written or online tests. As compared to final year students or drop outs, working professionals have shortage of time for preparing for these exams. But working people, who really want to change their career or increase their salary, do give their best to crack MBA exams.
