National Aptitude Test for Architecture is being taken by the students so as to seek admission into First year of 5 year B.Arch Degree Course which is offered by approximately around 385 institutions across India. NATA is just a qualifying exam; the desirous candidates have to go through rigorous selection procedure of each college individually. Moreover there is no common NATA counselling as in case of JEE Mains and JEE Advanced and the candidate has to apply individually to each institute.
The colleges which offer the 5 year B.Arch Degree Course are required to get the necessary approval from Council of Architecture (COA). Merely receiving approval from AICTE will not be considered sufficient for an institution or college.
NATA is the largest National Level Examinationwhich is conducted by National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA) to seek admission in any Architectural College or course in India (Except NITs & IITs). It is also considered as an eligibility test for admission into the Architecture Course.
In India there are somewhere around 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) out of which only 9 NIT’s offer B.Arch course and there are 559 B.Arch Seats in these NITs. NIT’s offer admission to the B.Arch course on the basis of JEE Main Paper 2. 5 CFTIs/ STFIs also also offer B. Arch/ B.Planning course and there are 331 seats.
Out of the total IIT’s in India only two IIT’s i.e. IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur offers the B.Arch course. IIT’s offer admission to the B.Arch course on the basis of the Architecture Aptitude Test. AAT can be taken only by those who have qualified JEE Main Paper 2 and JEE Advanced Paper.
If the reports are to be believed then there are about 385 institutions in India that offers architectural education which in last leads to recognized degrees. The standard of education that is being maintained by all the institutions is looked after by the Council of Architecture. Moreover till date there are somewhere around 49, 463 Registered architects in India both male and female.
