The All India based common Entrance Exam which is conducted by JEE Apex Board under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resourceand Development so as to offer admission in renowned Engineering colleges and prestigious Engineering courses across the nation after completing Class 12 is JEE Main or Joint Entrance Exam.In 2012, Central Board of Secondary Education of India has announced this common examination in replacing both of AIEEE and IIT-JEE. JEE is being conducted into two parts, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The application Process for every upcoming session usually commences in the month of November of the preceding year. JEE Main is a two tier examination system, this is how:
JEE Main is the 1st stage of JEE. It lets the candidate take undergraduate admissions in Engineering courses to the National Institute of Technology (NITs), Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIITs), Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI’s) and State Funded Technical Institutes (SFTIs). This is not all very many famous private Institutes or University offers admission to their engineering courses on the basis of JEE Main.
JEE Advanced is the 2nd stage in the two tier examination system. It lets the candidate take undergraduate admissions in Engineering courses to Indian Institute of Technology popularly known as IIT’s and Indian School of Mines (ISM) which is located in Dhanbad.
Gujarat, Odisha, Nagaland, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra are the states who have joined the JEE Main system and accepts the score of JEE Main to offer admission. So all in all it is very much a piece of advice, that if you are planning to give the JEE Main and belong to any of the enlisted state then make sure to fill the JEE Main exam application form as these states have done away with the Entrance Exams that are conducted on State level.
Kindly Note: it is expected that in the year 2016 Maharashtra will opt out of the JEE Main system and will offer admission of the basis of MHCET i.e. Maharashtra Common Entrance Test.
One more thing to be kept in mind is that the above enlisted state do not conduct their own Entrance Exam to offer admission to the Engineering colleges, they are solely dependent on JEE Main. But there can be a situation that a Private College in these states can conduct their own Entrance Exam or follow any other norms to offer admission. But the government colleges cannot take any such step.
Further the states who are not participant member of the JEE Main conducts their own State level Entrance Exam or All India based Entrance exam to offer admission. Moreover the private institutes of these states can offer admission on the basis of JEE Main or as the case may be.
For admission in NIT’s, IIIT’s, CFTI’s and SFTI’s the merit list is prepared by giving 40% weightage to the marks scored in Class 12 Board Exams or equivalent exams and 60% weightage to the JEE Main Exam conducted.
