Ray and Charles Eames their story.
Getting the most of the best to the greatest number of people for the least” was the goal Ray and Charles Eames set for themselves. Everything the famous couple designed paid a tribute to that, particularly the Eames DAR, Eames DSR, Eames DAR and Eames DSW. They intended their chairs to be suitable for mass production hence affordable for everybody. The Eames Plastic Chairs were made for the masses and are the best example of how design furniture can and should be available for all. They were also the first industrially manufactured chairs in American history. Their comfort, their beauty and production were a real breakthrough and brought the couple international fame.
The first chair of the moulded plastic chairs was produced in 1948. They each have the same seat shell that perfectly mimics the shape of the human body and makes them exceptionally comfortable chairs to sit in. However their bases and arm styles vary. That is why they are identified by their initials. The DSW is a Dining chair, Side chair with a Wood base. DSR stands for Dining chair, Side chair with a Rod base. DAW means Dining chair, Armrests and Wooden legs. And finally the initials DAR stand for Dining Chair, Armchair with a Rod base.
